In this case study, we introduce an example of improving dripping, climbing, and stringing, which are causes of defective products, through a water- and oil-repellent coating on the nozzle tip. Here is an example of surface treatment for device components that apply resist liquid to precision substrates. ■Consultation In the process of applying resist liquid to a film-like thin substrate, there was a consultation regarding the resist liquid adhering to the suction fixture during the application process to the precision substrate. ■Concern In the process of applying resist liquid to a film-like thin substrate, a problem arose where the resist liquid adhered to the suction fixture, causing the resist liquid from the fixture to stick to the substrate being transported next. The adhesion of resist liquid to the substrate leads to product defects, necessitating an increase in the cleaning frequency of the transport fixture, which in turn hindered productivity. ■Request To solve the problem, we initially tried prototyping with Teflon™ coating, but the slight surface irregularities of the coating transferred as patterns onto the thin substrate, resulting in product defects. The organic nano-thin film treatment technology "NANOS" can apply functional films that enhance water repellency, oil repellency, stain resistance (fingerprint resistance), and slip properties (dynamic friction coefficient) to metal and glass substrates such as stainless steel (SUS) and nickel (Ni) through spray treatment and vacuum deposition using a special fluoropolymer. The maximum temperature of the entire process is 80°C, resulting in minimal thermal impact on the substrate, and since it is colorless and transparent, it has little effect on optical properties. 【Examples of Use】 ■ Target: Molds for nanoimprinting ■ Purpose: Improve release properties and enhance conformity to fine shapes 【Features】 ○ Excellent water and oil repellency Pure water: over 110°; n-hexadecane: over 68° ○ Control of thin film thickness Spray treatment: 5–10nm (can be controlled in increments of 1nm) Vacuum deposition: 5–45nm (can be controlled in increments of 5nm) ○ Minimal impact on optical properties (colorless and transparent) ○ Low-temperature process Our surface treatment methods include both deposition and spray methods.
